In 1997 I was commissioned to shoot a photo-essay on Brick Lane and the surrounding streets in the East End of London for a weekend newspaper.

In 1997 I photographed the various urban farms that can be found throughout London.

In 1995 I lived with a homeless community in Plumstead, Southeast London called Emmaus. For five weeks I documented their everyday lives. This became my Final Project at university.

Exploring the abstract beauty of surfaces in the process of transformation through deterioration or defacement.

2016

A collection of photographs of the dinosaurs that live in Crystal Palace Park, London, that were created in 1854 as part of the Crystal Palace Exhibition. These prehistoric park dwelling friends are in danger of crumbling into extinction all over again. Working in partnership with the Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs Nik gained exclusive access to Dino Island to photograph the dinosaurs, in a bid to help with fundraising efforts for their conservation.

Nik will hand print any image from his current or archive portfolios to order.

Documenting the variety of interesting man-made structures throughout Cornwall. The project covered hundreds of miles over a seven-year period. Exhibited at the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro in 2010.

A series of studies of graphic shapes, textures and shadows in colour.

A personal project documenting some of the many creative individuals working and exhibiting in Cornwall and the South West.

Documenting the weird and wonderful forms, textures and patterns of a variety of sub-tropical plants that thrive in Cornwall. Exhibited at the Vitreous Gallery in Truro in 2007.

Nik Strangelove specialises in available-light photography using both analogue and digital equipment. Nik was born in London in 1970 and grew up in Oman and Singapore. He began taking photographs when he was 16. While studying for his degree Nik worked as the Picture Editor and chief photographer for The London Student newspaper. In 1994 he was awarded the Guardian/NUS Student Photographer of the Year Award. He was nominated for this prize again in 1995.

After graduation Nik worked as a freelance photographer. His clients included magazines, national newspapers and private commissions. In 1996, 2004 and 2013, the National Portrait Gallery in London purchased some of his portrait work, including shots of Eddie Izzard, Tariq Ali, John Hegley, Corin Redgrave, Peter Randall-Page, Anthony Frost and Trevor Bell. In 2013 Nik won the TOWRY Award for The Best From The Southwest of England in the 17th National Open Art Competition. Nik has also written articles for The British Journal of Photography, Professional Photographer and The Guardian.
